Thanks for sharing your experiences Susan. It's very helpful! It is a shame when a good service is bought out and changed.

Thanks for your reviews. I used to use Daily Plate, loved most of the features, but most importantly the ability to add your own recipes. Such a great feature! You then got the nutritional information per serving (providing you entered it correctly; the only downfall was the method of entering recipes was a little cumbersome) and other members could then use and rate your recipes.
This was a couple of years ago. I've recently gained some weight back so returned to Daily Plate. To my HUGE disappointment it has been taken over by a company called LiveStrong, who despite I think their best intentions, have changed the site completely. For the worse, in my humble opinion. Many of the features I loved are gone. If they were still available for paid members, I was going to sign up, but going through the site, it appears they have gone, or changed so much I think I would find the site too frustrating.

One site I came across that I have been really happy with is www.myfitnesspal.com

I like that the database differentiates between user added foods and foods that have been added by the site creators. The site is visually easy to use, and there is a recipe calculator that doesn't force you to make the recipe available to everyone (like caloriecount does). Also, you can click that you are done with the day to find your intake of macronutrients as well as some smaller nutrients. It provides realistic tools as well for common numbers, like BMI and BMR. It also tells you that if you keep eating a certain calorie intake everyday, you will be X number of pounds in 5 weeks. This is nice because calorie counts can vary every day, also it keeps you on track to lose.

Corrected version. Please remove previous version.

Many of the food nutrient values, including caloric values are wildly inaccurate. You can compensate for this by entering items into your "My Food" list. However, today, some of the "My Food" items that I spent a lot of time entering just switched, right in front of my eyes, totally inaccurately. I then tried to re-enter the list from "My Food" list but the altered, inaccurate values were now part of the list. Also, it is very difficult to remove foods once they are on your daily food diary--you can remove the name of the food and the amount, but the nutritional values, including the calories remains in your daily totals. I purchased this because its Ipod app is supposed to be easier to use than the livestrong.com ipod app. However, I find the livestrong.com app much easier to use online than the mynetdiary.com. Maybe they will improve, but right now it is not worth $9 per month or $60 per years.

Have you tried SparkPeople.com? I've been using it and its wonderful. You can enter recipes or use one from their recipe database and it calculates nutrition info for you that you can transfer to your daily tracker. It breaks every nutrient down and even suggests menu plans based on your goals and preferences. You can enter food manually or from their huge database. There's a fitness log, TONS of articles, exercise plans, route planning (if you walk/run). There's even space to make personal goals to track along with your calories, nutrients, and exercise. There's also groups you can join in you need more encouragement/support.
